ACTIVITIES:

   Sweet Solar Tea

Kindergarteners will discover just how powerful the sun is as a source of heat energy. Fill a jar with one liter of water and a tea bag. Place in sun for three hours. Remove teabag, cool, add sugar, stir and enjoy! Have students record information with words and drawings. https://rb.gy/2ypb1

   DIY Solar Night Light

Show your kids how to harness the sun’s energy by making a solar night light. All you need is a mason jar and a small solar path light. Place the solar panel in the sun for a full day. Then fit the solar panel snugly in the top of the mason jar. Tada! What a fun activity to do with your kids this summer!  https://rb.gy/0up16

Build Your Own Lego Wind Turbine

Lego’s Education Spike Essential Set offers students the chance to learn how a wind turbine converts wind energy into electricity when the turbine’s blades turn. See complete lesson plan and instructions at  https://rb.gy/6ht2m

   Measure the Wind

In order to understand how to use the power of the wind to generate electricity, scientists use anemometers to measure wind speed. With just a few simple objects you can build your own anemometer. Use it to measure the wind and consider trying to capture some of its energy for your own use.  https://tinyurl.com/2p8u2n7x

   Lemons Versus Potatoes

In this experiment, students will compare two energy sources and record the voltage values of each. The objective is to teach students that the future of the energy grid will rely on multiple energy sources.  https://tinyurl.com/bnh65w64
