   Food Chain Flashcards

Adhere animal pictures on one side of index cards. On the back side, attach pictures of foods the animals eat. (Cow/grass, bird/worm, etc.) Laminate. Have students take turns naming the animals and what they eat. Flip card over to reveal the answer. Make your own flashcards, or purchase at https://rb.gy/14sr2e

   What Do Birds Eat?

Collect clean, empty milk cartons. Cut an opening in each one and pour birdseed inside. Hang the birdfeeders. To attract other types of birds, hang oranges and grapes. Make suet balls with your students, following the recipe at https://rainydaymum.co.uk/diy-bird-feed/#recipe. Observe the birds that visit your feeders. Note what food each bird prefers to eat.

   Artful Eating!

This cross-curriculum art project is so fun! Kids choose a food chain to illustrate, then represent each part of it inside the mouth of the next.  https://www.weareteachers.com/food-webs/

   On-Line "Food Finder" Game

Students click to pick which foods animals eat. Animals are herbivores if they eat plants, carnivores if they eat meat, and omnivores if they eat both plants and meat.  https://www.tinytap.com/activities/g2y4z/play/what-do-animals-eat-game

   Circle of Life

Use a paper plate to show the circle of life! Turn kids loose with a stack of magazines, or print pictures from the internet. Have students assemble the images into food chains around a paper plate.  https://www.weareteachers.com/food-webs/
