Tacky Tape Art
Very young children will thoroughly enjoy this sticky activity, as they notice the differences in the smooth and tacky sides of the tape. Provide large sheets of white paper (ideally 16” X 18“) and pieces of colored painter’s tape. Encourage children to paste tape on the white paper any way they prefer. https://eduart4kids.com/tape-art/
Tricky Sticky Mural
Gather contact paper, poster board, painter’s tape, and misc. objects, e.g. bottle caps, pom poms, cotton balls, ribbon, yarn, foam stickers. Place a sheet of contact paper to poster board, sticky side out. Encourage children to place items on the contact paper wherever they prefer. Watch the happy sticking begin! https://www.icanteachmychild.com/sticky-mural-for-toddlers/
Sticky Play with Pom Poms and Velcro
Velcro and pom poms are the perfect pair for a sticky game! Cut a long strip of Velcro and secure the sticky side to a wall or large poster board. Provide large pom pom balls for children to adhere to the lined side of the strip of Velcro. https://www.teach-me-mommy.com/baby-pay-velcro-and-pompoms/
Tissue Paper Collage
This open-ended art activity is a wonderful way to give young children experience using glue sticks, and their tacky property. Provide large pieces of white construction paper (ideally 16” X 18”), sheets of tissue paper for children to tear into pieces, and glue sticks. Encourage children to glide the glue stick along the white paper and press pieces of tissue paper onto the glue, as they prefer.
"Ready, Set, Go!" Experiment
It’s off to the races! Secure a poster board to a tripod or book holder. Provide 3 measuring cups and identical amounts of maple syrup, water, and shampoo. Draw a “Start” and “Finish” line at the top and bottom on the poster board. Ask children to predict which liquid will reach the bottom of the board first. “GO!” Have children pour their chosen liquid at the “Start” spot on the board and observe which liquid reaches the finish line first. A great activity for little scientists that includes making predictions and documenting outcomes! https://www.science-sparks.com/viscosity-races-large-scale/
