Counting Fun with Muffin Tins
Insert cup liners in a muffin tin, with each cup showing a quantity indicated by small black dots, like the face of a die, from 1-5. Encourage your little mathematicians to place the correct number of pebbles or pennies in each segment. This game develops the skills of quantification and part-whole relationships. Classification Fun with Muffin Tins
Insert cup liners in a muffin tin. Provide a collection of buttons, pennies, pebbles, or differently colored small pom poms for sorting. This active game will enhance your mathematicians’ skills in classification, comparison, and part-whole relationships. https://tinyurl.com/teacherstartermuffintins
Mini Garden Beds/Seed Starters
Pierce holes into the bottom of each segment of a disposable muffin tin. Assist your mini botanists in filing the segments with potting soil and fast-growing seeds, such as lettuce, radishes, and green beans. This activity expands young children’s concepts in botany, agriculture, and physical knowledge (change). https://tinyurl.com/sadieseasonmuffinpans
Muffin BINGO Game
Young children enjoy BINGO games! Design a similar Muffin BINGO game using generic bingo templates and simple cartoon images available on the Internet. Your little learners will build math concepts in one-to-one correspondence, pattern, left-right orientation, and part-whole relationships. Source: Sheila Kerwin
Favorite Muffin Vote
Young children enjoy sharing their personal preferences with peers and friends. Take a vote with your group on their favorite muffin, creating a chart similar to the one pictured here. Voting is an excellent way to strengthen children’s match skills in quantification, classification, comparison, and pattern. It also builds a foundation for perspective-taking and later experiences in civics! Source: Sheila Kerwin
